چکیده

Drought is a common natural disaster worldwide, with varying durations, severity levels, and spatial extents. This study aimed to model the spatiotemporal variation of meteorological drought events in Gabiley region Somaliland. The utilized primary data collected from station CHIRPS (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation Station) develop standardized precipitation index (SPI) at 3-month timescale. results revealed that area was characterized by received inadequate precipitation, resulting catastrophic droughts negatively impacted socioeconomic situation community. Mild-to-severe occurred every two three years, most severe occurring 1998, 2002, 2009, 2015, 2017. Specifically, year 2015 experienced during studied period. predominant type mild area. SPI found potentially identify drought, making it useful tool for policymakers as they adaptation mitigation policies. provides valuable information can benefit local authorities creating strategies region.

A comparison of parametric and non-parametric methods of standardized precipitation index (SPI) in drought monitoring (Case study: Gorganroud basin)

The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is the most common index for drought monitoring. Although the calculation of this index is usually done by using the gamma distribution fitting of precipitation data, studies have shown that for accurate monitoring of drought, the optimal distribution of precipitation in each month should be determined. On the other hand, in non-stationary time series,...
